San Ignacio de Moxos and San Borja, Beni

Church Planting and Education

"For your light will shine like the dawn into darkness and the Lord will be your guide. You will be like a well-watered garden, like a spring whose waters never fail.” Is. 58

The department of the Beni, located in Bolivia’s Amazon region is truly an enchanted land of plush forests and spacious grasslands teaming with an innumerable variety of animals and birds, living in harmony in their tropical home. San Ignacio de Moxos was founded in 1689 by Jesuit Priests; the town has a population of 10,000 along with many small surrounding villages, farms and ranches that are home to the indigenous peoples as well as immigrants of European descent.

Fountain of Life Churches

Our purpose

We are called to proclaim the good news to all peoples that Jesus is our Savior, Lord and Friend and walk in obedience to His commands by loving our Heavenly Father and our neighbor.

The church in San Ignacio began with new believers who came to the Lord through evangelistic Bible studies in the beginning years of the ministry. In 1991 we purchased a property and, together with the new believers, built a small building where meetings were held until 2001 at which time growth spurred us to construct a new building. As a body of believers, we emphasize Christian education classes, weekly small group meetings and our Sunday worship service as our means to make disciples. A group of elders or leadership team oversees both the church and school ministries. A new church plant began in 2002 in San Borja with visiting teams from San Ignacio. The Lord has blessed this church with steady growth by reaching the community through evangelism and discipleship programs. As we strive to walk in obedience to the Lord Jesus, we trust and pray that we will be a like a fountain pouring out life-giving water for all in a dry and thirsty land.

Fountain of Life Schools

The missionary team, along with the leaders of the churches, asked a simple question, “What can we do to serve our community in a practical way that will demonstrate God’s love and fulfill a felt need?” The answer we received was unexpected! We knew God was calling us to develop an educational project that would provide the families we lived amongst with a quality education. We envisioned a school that would serve the whole community by helping to prepare and mold young people to live productive lives, committed to serving God, their nation and their neighbor.

Our Purpose

Our school’s purpose is to provide the children and youth of San Ignacio and San Borja with an integrated educational experience based on biblical values and principles, preparing and forming the students to be competent, gifted and willing to serve God, their nation and their neighbor.

After much prayer and planning, construction began in July of 1996 with funds provided by supporting churches and friends. Upon receiving certification from the Bolivian Ministry of Education we opened our doors in February of 1997, receiving 120 students in Kindergarten through third grade. A grade was added each year until 2006, culminating in the first graduating class with 28 students. The school now has an educational community of 450 students enrolled in grades Pre-K through 12th and approximately 25 full time teachers and staff serving, learning and working together.

In 2008 we opened a second educational project in San Borja, a town of approximately 25,000 residents located 90 miles west of San Ignacio. This second school opened with K-3rd grade as well and is now in its 6th year, growing to 290 students enrolled K- 8th grade.

Volunteer workers can provide valuable service at either school by teaching computer classes, giving English and music lessons and assisting with sports programs.
